Gpa 212-8a

Several months ago, there was some curiosity in this forum about the GPA 212-8A, especially about how it compares with GPA's 604-8H but apparently no one had any experience with it yet. Does anyone now have a sense of how the 212's performance compares to the 604?

I haven't heard them but according to other members the mechanics would make it similar from 30 to 1500 HZ being an under hung type voice coil therefore excellent resolution.

From 1500 on it's the same driver but using a 2.8 " voice coil for the HF section.This technique makes it a true one point source speaker..

During that time of the discussion, I posted to a ebay auction that the seller had a hundred of the older altec 12 coax's....... He was selling them cheap, for $25-50 ea...... Last I saw he sold them all, but the ting was he was located in New Orleans, so I was guessing/assuming they were gutted from something they had gotten damage in the karnage of katrina....who knows really...

I was curious about the 212, I was looking forward to someone getting them and letting us how they sound/performed.....

One of the speakers of note at the recent CES was the Trenner & Friedl RA-Box which appears at a quick glance to be similar in a point source design. Has anybody had the opportunity to hear the GPA 212-8a in a decent listening environment?...
